The Handmade Music School presents an old time guitar workshop with Jackson Cunningham on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 1:30-3:00pm. Guitar is the backbone of a string band and Jackson Cunningham is a master rhythm player. Learn fills, bass runs, and the basics and stylistic techniques of backing up a band and playing behind singing. Stick around after the workshop to hear Jackson's band Nobody's Business perform on the Floyd Radio Show.
Join us on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10:00-3:00 for an intensive autoharp workshop with John Hollandsworth. This workshop is geared toward intermediate and advanced players. The cost is $65.00 for early bird registration (through May 22) or $75.00 after. Lunch is provided by The Floyd Country Store and is included in the cost.

The Handmade Music School is offering a series of one-hour afternoon workshops as part of the Floyd County Old Time Music Get-Together on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the the Floyd EcoVillage in Floyd County, Virginia. Workshops include intermediate and advanced classes in fiddle, banjo, guitar, dance, and singing. We are opening these workshops to the public. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per workshop.

This amazing four day camp will take place in early spring on March 14 – 17, 2019. The Handmade Music School presents a special workshop for young people ages 8-16 with the incredibly talented and dynamic Kaia Kater on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 4:00-5:00pm. She will be presenting a special workshop featuring Banjo / Fiddle Tunes, Percussive Dance and Body Percussion and she will speak to how these styles and her music education influenced the music she is making now. This workshop is free.

Cost is $65 with a new ukulele, $30 for workshop only. This is a family-friendly, kid-friendly workshop priced with a ukulele. It is a perfect gift and activity for the Holiday vacation week! Those interested can purchase the Ukulele and wrap it up for a loved one, and receive a gift certificate for the Workshop, or receive a gift certificate for both the instrument and the workshop to be picked up on December 29th.
The Floyd Country Store’s Handmade Music School is offering a Fiddle Workshop with Earl White on Saturday, Saturday December 15, 2018 from 3pm-5pm. This class is all about having fun while enhancing and fine tuning your skills to help you move from intermediate to advanced. We will explore and focus on bowing techniques that will help you get that “old time” sound, while building your repertoire with tunes in various keys. Bring recorders! Let’s play. Cost is $30.
The Handmade Music School presents a bass workshop with Missy Raines on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 3:00-4:30pm. Join Missy for an intensive 90 minute bass workshop. We’ll cover some basic fundamentals including right hand technique, left hand technique, getting good tone, and keeping good time. We’ll hone our ear training skills a little and unlock the number system while playing a new song or two. We’ll also discuss the important role of the bass in a bluegrass band and how to be the best support player you can be. All levels welcome. Bring your instrument.
