The Handmade Music School, along with The Floyd Country Store, is excited to announce the Third Annual Floyd County Old Time Music Get-Together at the beautiful EcoVillage in Floyd County, Virginia! This amazing four day camp will take place in early spring on October 15-18, 2020 (rescheduled from March 2020). Instructors include Caleb Klauder, Sammy Lind, Nadine Landry, Reeb Willms, Tatiana Hargreaves, Jake Blount, Adam Hurt, and Phil Jamison. Cost is $400 for the four day camp.

The Handmade Music School presents an Old Time Fiddle Fundamentals Workshop with Andrew Small on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 6:00-7:00pm. The workshop will be presented online via Crowdcast. This workshop will be beneficial to beginning and intermediate old time fiddlers as well as anyone who wishes to gain a foundational understanding of the functional, technical, and stylistic considerations inherent to old time fiddling in a dance music setting. We will break down a tune from the standard repertoire of Southwest Virginia and use the tune as a case study to identify basic rhythmic figures and corresponding bowing patterns. Participants can expect to gain a basic understanding of rhythmic old time bowing and learn a tune or two from the common regional repertoire.
The Handmade Music School presents an Old Time Fiddle and Banjo Workshop with Paul Brown and Terri McMurray on Saturday March 7, 2020 from 1:30-3:00pm. Explore the interaction between old-time fiddle and banjo through demonstrations and your own participation. All levels welcome, and other instruments are welcome too! This fiddle workshop will focus primarily on how to help your fiddling sound old-timey and more driving. It will be geared toward learning how to use bow pulses, bowing phrases, and note combinations to give fiddle tunes a shape.

The Handmade Music School present an intermediate fiddle workshop, "Merging Traditional Fiddle Styles," with Billy Hurt on Saturday October 12, 2019 from 3:30-5:00pm. Cost is $30. This intermediate workshop will teach participants to use multiple fiddle styles to create their own versions of tunes, while staying within the framework of traditional music. Billy will point out examples of fiddlers that have used the same techniques on old records.

Learn fiddle in the old-time way, phrase by phrase from with one of the most respected fiddlers in the Blue Ridge Mountain region. Eddie will teach Round Peak/Galax style tunes with attention to bowing.
