On August 27th, 2019, Abigail Washburn and Béla Fleck performed to a sold out crowd at the Floyd Country Store. As part of their mission to support local non-profit organizations in towns along their touring routes, Abigail and Béla generously donated the proceeds from merchandise sales at their Floyd concert to the Handmade Music School. As a way to say “thank you”, students and teachers from the Handmade Music School learned one of Béla’s original tunes and made a video featuring his tune “Big Country” alongside a local Floyd County fiddle tune. The Handmade Music School is excited to report that our video was shared on social media by both Abigail and Béla and has now been re-shared at least 175 times and viewed over 16,000 times!
We are so proud of all of our students and teachers at the Handmade Music School and we’d like to echo Béla Fleck’s sentiment in saying that it IS moments like these that make the music community so special. We are grateful for Béla and Abigail Washburn’s support of our school and for the moment they created for folks on August 27th when they performed in our town! Enjoy the Handmade Music School students performing Béla’s beautiful tune Big Country, followed by a Floyd County fiddle tune, Shooting Creek! Thanks for the support everyone! MORE MUSIC!!
