February 25 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
HANDMADE AT HOME
VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES
Join the Handmade Music School for a series of online workshops this winter! We’ve asked some our of favorite old time pals to share a little time with us online this winter discussing, demonstrating and teaching their award winning and distinctive musical styles. Zoom in on February 25th for an old time fiddle session with Sammy Lind! Price is pay what you can with a strongly suggested donation of $25 and a minimum $5.
FIDDLE WITH SAMMY LIND:
I like to teach fiddle by jumping right in and showing what I’ve picked up over the years. Hopefully we will have time for two tunes at least! I’ll also chat a bit about my influences and am happy to answer any questions. With old time fiddling, the bowing and comprehension of syncopation are huge factors so I’ll pick tunes that have consistent bowing patterns to get them to feel familiar. It’s my hope that learning a couple tunes in this way that it’ll be easier to hear these rhythms in other tunes and make them easier to pick up and add to your repertoire!
MORE ABOUT OUR WINTER VIRTUAL SERIES:
These hour and a half long workshops will be a great opportunity to hear some really inspiring music, learn some new insights and techniques, and reconnect with your community in the cold dark of winter. The loose format of these sessions will be:
- a short intro where each artist is either interviewed by the Handmade Music staff, or talks a little about themselves and their approach to stringband music and instrument
- plays a few of their favorite recordings, talks about why they love them
- plays a few tunes with a friend or 3
- teaches a tune or song or 3
- a question and answer zoom hangout session
The Zoom link will be sent by email prior to the workshop.
