Get-Together Weekend Afternoon Workshops

Handmade Music School Workshops offer unique learning experiences in music or dance with master teachers at the Floyd Country Store. The workshops are timely, engaging, and dynamic sessions targeted to serve participants with varied interests and goals. Register today for a shorter 1-2 hour workshop, an all-day learning experience, or a multi-day camp!

The Handmade Music School is offering a series of one-hour afternoon workshops as part of the Floyd County Old Time Music Get-Together on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the the Floyd EcoVillage in Floyd County, Virginia. Workshops include intermediate and advanced classes in fiddle, banjo, guitar, dance, and singing. We are opening these workshops to the public, but pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per workshop.

  • Kilby Spencer: Regional Fiddle Tunes of Grayson County, VA and Ashe County, NC

  • Becky Hill: Introduction to Flatfoot Dance

  • Joe “joebass” DeJarnette: Stringband Guitar
  • Hannah Johnson: Big Circle Dances from Highland County, Virginia
Saturday, March 16 from 4:00pm – 4:50pm
  • Emily Spencer: Banjo Tunes in Less Common Tunings (learned from Jont Blevins of Whitetop Mountain)
  • Jake Blount: Black Stringband Music
  • Elizabeth LaPrelle: Appalachian Song Session
  • Joseph “joebass” DeJarnette: Intermediate Stringband Bass
Saturday, March 16 from 5:00pm – 5:50pm
  • Mac Traynham: Ancient Solo Fiddle Tunes and Tunings
  • Becky Hill: Square Dance Calling 101
  • Canote Brothers: Song Session
  • Trevor McKenzie: Fiddling for Country and Honky-Tonk Tunes
