The Handmade Music School presents Fred Cockerham’s June Apple with Riley Baugus on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 3:00 EDT. The workshop will be presented via Crowdcast as part of our Handmade at Home online series. Cost is a minimum contribution of $5 (suggested donation of $15).

In this workshop we’ll be covering a version of the tune June Apple from the playing of Fred Cockerham. I love Fred’s playing and find his take on this tune to be very intriguing. We’ll use this tune to cover some essential techniques in clawhammer banjo playing. This is the workshop for you if you want to dive a little deeper into the Round Peak style.

Riley first discovered traditional music through his family and an early exposure to church and ballad singing. He is now a much sought-after banjo player, maker, and instructor. Riley was the a cappella singing voice of Pangle in the film “Cold Mountain,” followed by participation in the Great High Mountain tour. He has performed or recorded with the likes of Tim O’Brien, Dirk Powell, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson, and he teaches workshops both nationally and abroad.

Please consider a donation to today’s teaching artist and The Handmade Music School (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization). Thanks!
