On October 11, 2022, Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn came to Floyd to perform for their second time at The Floyd Country Store. When Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn come to town, it’s a gift to the Floyd community. This time around, they spent some time with The Handmade Music School community. It was a special moment for all involved and captured the spirit of how keeping traditions alive builds and strengthens community.
The Floyd Country Store & Handmade Music School are offering dance lessons for folks wanting to learn country two-step. The class focuses on how to connect with a partner and learning to hear the music. We will introduce ways to respond easily and consistently to the music's rhythms, simple turns, and a few embellishments that will enhance the dance experience! Additionally, we will share useful advice to increase your total dance success and confidence, and…we will have FUN!

The Handmade Music School is excited to announce the First Annual Floyd Youth Get Together Camp: a traditional music and dance camp for kids ages 8-14. The five-day camp will take place at the Floyd Events Center, which is part of the Floyd EcoVillage in Floyd, Virginia.

he Floyd Music Loft Recording Ensemble is a group class available to up to six students in 8-week sessions. The class provides students an opportunity to write, perform, and record music in a band setting with professional instruments and recording equipment. The next class takes place September 7 - October 26, 2021. Classes meet once a week on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-6:00 pm. Cost is $400.00 (scholarships available).
The Handmade Music School (at The Floyd Country Store) & Southwest Virginia luthier Jackson Cunningham are offering a chance to win one of Jackson’s beautiful custom-made guitars to benefit programming at The Handmade Music School.
We are so thrilled with the participation in this year's competition. Folks from all over the world submitted videos of themselves sharing SWVA music and dance, and we are so proud of every single entry. The level of competition was very high and our only regret is that we didn't have enough prizes or categories to recognize all of the deserving entries.
The Handmade Music School presents the 2021 Virtual Get Together on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 2:00-6:00pm. Registration opens February 15 with a suggested donation of $50.* Workshops are taught via Zoom. An event schedule and passwords will be sent after registration.
